Languages of the Three Regions of the Visayas

~ As historians told, Filipino race came from Indonesian and Malaysian races. Chinese, Indian and Arabian merchants used to visit Philippines to barter their goods. Then, the Spanish and other Hispanic people came and christianized the Philippine nation. Hundreds of years after, Americans came to industrialized the Philippines. During World War II, Japanese troops (and some are Koreans) occupied the whole country. ~

----------------------------------------------------

Western Visayas    ( Philippine Region 6 )      = Hiligaynon Language (hil)

Central Visayas  ( Philippine Region 7  )    = Cebuano Language (ceb)

Eastern Visayas     ( Philippine Region 8 )      = Waray-waray Language (war)

But there  are also sub-languages formed after the main visayan languages.

----------------------------------------------------

Cebuano or Sugbuanon language ( mainly influenced by Spanish, Latin, and English ) is spoken throughout Central Visayas and Mindanao. It is the primary Visayan Language or the lingua franca of the Visayas and Mindanao Regions. Whenever you hear about the word 'Bisaya' or 'Bisdak'; well, it defines the Cebuano Language and Culture. Some of the Cebuano dialects or Cebuano ethnic languages are the following: Leytehanon (Kana or Leyteño) in Southern Leyte, Boholano (Bol-anon) in Bohol, Bantayanon (bfx) in Bantayan group of islands, Davaoeño in Davao.

 Example/s:Translated Cebuano-English

Cebuano: "Unsa man ang gusto nimu?"
English: "What is the desire of yours?"

   Cebuano: "Maayong gabii ninyong tanan!"
   English: "Good evening to all!"

   Cebuano: "Okey man ko, kaayo!"
   English: "I'm very okay!"

   Cebuano: "Nahigugma ako kanimu!"
   English: "I love you!"

   Cebuano: "Ayo-ayo! Muadto na ko."
English: "Take care! I have to go."

Hiligaynon or Ilonggo language is spoken in the Eastern Panay, Western Negros, in the western section of Masbate and in  Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat areas in Mindanao. While Kinaray-a or Hamtikanon dialect is spoken in the Western Panay.

Waray-waray or Samareño language is basically related to Hiligaynon and Cebuano; spoken in Northern Leyte and Samar.

*Bantayanon (bfx) which is a language in the Northern most of Cebu Province is under a dispute whether it is a Hiligaynon dialect or a Cebuano dialect or more over a Waray-waray dialect. Basically Bantayan Island and its smaller islands are part of the Cebu Province and uses Cebuano language in formal writing and speaking, hence it is considered a Cebuano dialect. People living in that area uses Cebuano, Waray-waray, Hiligaynon, Masbateño because they are not the original inhabitants. They came from diffirent part of the Visayas and Mindanao.
